Rooted in the Deep is a collection by Kim Arthurs featuring a variety of cyanotypes and organic material and minerals. The inspiration for this collection grows deep in the darker depths of herself. It is a celebration of what illuminates through the abyss, what relentlessly grows, and what continues to expand. From the exploration of deep sea creatures and underwater landscapes to otherworldly constellations calling from deep space, this collection romanticizes the varying degrees of luminescence that persist in the darkness, draws us in closer, and roots us in the deep. She expresses this in a language composed of seaweed harvested from the beach in the dark of December, roots cut from exhausted tomato plants uprooted before the frost, flowers from walks and the garden, sea salt, and spices.
Rooted in the Deep features 21 original cyanotypes. It is installed at Aeronaut Cannery in Everett, MA from Feb-May 2022. Opening Night: Feb 20, 2022
