“Cosmic Garden” Featured at New Harvest Coffee & Spirits

“Cosmic Garden” Installed at New Harvest Coffee & Spirits (10 Sims Ave, Providence, RI 02909) June 20-Sept 1 2022

Art Show: Saturday July 9 7:30pm

The artwork featured in this show belongs to a collection titled Cosmic Garden, composed of eight original cyanotypes. A cyanotype is a photographic printing process which exposes in sunlight and develops in water. It was discovered by John Herschel, an astronomer, in 1842 and popularized by Anna Atkins, a botanist and first female photographer, in the 19th century. Each print is made in sunlight and crafted with botanicals collected from Kim’s garden such as various flowers, invasive weeds, hay, fountain grass, asparagus, chives, and sea salt and turmeric from her kitchen. Cosmic Garden romanticizes celestial and galactic phenomena, bridges the gap between the familiarity of Earth and curiosities of deep space life, and explores grounding elements intertwined with ethereal mystery and otherworldly dreamscapes.
